「日本人のナゾな恋愛観」by Shelly

アメリカに住んで約3年の月日が経とうとしている。

有難いことに、素敵な友人たちに恵まれている筆者（アラサー女子）
なのだが、日米の違いには色々と驚きの毎日である。

例えば日本における恋愛とは“権利”なのだろうか、とふと思う時がある。

義務を果たさねば主張できない社会のルール、みたいな。

アイドルが熱愛発覚した日には、
まるで殺人でも犯したかの如く報道される。

「誠に申し訳ありませんでした…」

と、誰に謝っているのか分からない、ナゾの”台本”を読まされている。

アメリカでは、ありえない光景に思う。

そんな日々を過ごす内に、すぅっと他人の思考が彼らの中に溶け込んでゆくのであろう。

利益になるであろう「誰か」の思考が。

対立関係にあったロミオとジュリエットでさえも愛に嘘はつけなかった。

結局、「好き」の気持ちに蓋をすることなどできない。

また、特筆すべき名監督のこのような言葉がある。

「芸能人だから恋愛するな？誰が言ったんだそんなこと。だから人の気持ちが分からない、演技が下手なんだ、日本の俳優は。」

どうせ「誰か」のために生きねばならない人生なら、彼のような人間の隣に私はいたい。

今後のTHEY SAYでは、アメリカで暮らす“誰か”にフォーカスをあて、彼・彼女たちの魅力をたっぷりとお伝えしたい。読み終わる頃には、あなたもきっと国境を越えた新たな出会いを求めるに違いない。

Hi, my name is Shelly. I have lived in US about 3 years. Thankfully, I have a lot of nice friends. But I am taken aback by the differences between Japan and US everyday.

For example, I think about being in love in Japan and it sometimes makes me think if it’s a “right”

When a Japanese Idol’s secret is revealed that she is dating someone, she gets treated as if she had committed a murder. This happens on a daily basis.
“I am deeply sorry for what happened…”
An apology statement script that someone made her read. Not sure who she is trying to apologize to, but this never happens in US?!

You can’t put the lid on your feelings.

I want to share a quote from a movie director whom I respect.
“Can’t fall in love because you are a celebrity? Who said such nonsense? That is the reason why Japanese actors can’t relate to other people’s feelings and horrible at acting.”

If I must live with someone, I would like to live next to someone like him.

From now on on THEY SAY, I am going to focus on “someone” who lives in America and tell you all about their fascinating lives.
